2016 – The year that started it all. The first Nickel City Con was two days in August at the Buffalo Niagara Convention center and we had an incredible celebrity guestlist for our first year. Our headliner was Sean Astin of The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, The Goonies, Rudy and eventually a stint on Netflix’s Stranger Things. We started our record of bringing in top Wrestling talent with the one and only WWE Legend Ric Flair! Star Wars and Marvel fans were treated to an appearance by Darth Maul & Toad from X-Men, Ray Park. Park set the bar high in year one for celebrity panels. Speaking of Marvel, Brett Dalton of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was in attendance as were the cast of the Comic Book Men including our first Clerks star Brian O’Halloran.

We also hosted Esme Bianco of HBO’s Game of Thrones, Futurama’s Phil LaMarr, Seinfeld’s Soup Nazi Larry Thomas, and the golf pro everyone loves to hate, Shooter McGavin – Christopher McDonald. David Acord and Matthew Wood were in attendance after their amazing work on Star Wars: The Force Awakens. We also got to hang out with Supernatural star Rick Worthy and our first Walking Dead guests were pet walkers Theshay West & Moses Moseley. Cosplayers Monika Lee & Riki Lecotey were great as well.

Our comic book artists the first year were simply amazing: Neal Adams, Joe Rubinstein, Joel Adams, Buzz Adams – that’s a lot of Adamseses! Sal Otero, Steve Geiger, Brian Roll, Larry Hama, Arthur Suydam, and Anthony Ojeda filled out an incredible lineup of legendary artists and creators.

The success of our first year set the stage for Nickel City Con to become one of the best events and best entertainment values for family fun in Buffalo. The rapid growth in attendance and the ability to continue to bring in amazing celebrity talent all started with 2 days in August of 2016 – thanks to everyone who showed up to support our new comic con that year, and every year since. We hope to continue to grow NCC into a world-class comic con for everyone in and around Western New York & Buffalo!!!
